Ullswater lake is one of the largest lakes in the Lake District. Through thousands of years of glacial erosion and turbulant geological activity, the lake has become a haven of wildlife and a beautiful part of the country. At it's north is the Helvellyn range, home to Helvellyn which is the third highest mountain in England and around the coastline you can find Red Deer, Red Squirrels and Fell Ponies. Trout and Perch are the main residents of the water as well as Red Breasted Mergansers. But not only is it a lake of beauty, Ullswater Lake has a fascinating history. For example, the steamers used to transport mail, slate and lead from local mines and soldiers during WWII and shortly after the war, Donald Campbell broke the world speed record, reaching 202mph along the 7.5 miles of water. Ullswater Lake is definitely worth a visit. This experience is valid for a family of two adults and two children or one adult and three children on a steam boat trip around Ullswater Lake. You are entitled to two handsets, subject to availability, which will provide you with an audio commentary so you can learn parts of the lake's history. This lake pass gives you the freedom to hop on and off all day and journey round the lake at your leisure - true freedom! Don't forget to take your camera. |
