There are thought to be less than 1,000 pandas left in the wild, with around 80% in Sichuan province. The Bifengzia Panda Reserve currently has approximately 70, many of which were relocated following the destruction of the nearby Wolong Reserve during an earthquake in 2008. The centre is designed to provide the ideal breeding environment for the pandas.
